Introduction to Guizhou Provincial Biochemical Engineering Center

 

Guizhou Provincial Biochemical Engineering Center , built rely on the provincial key Biochemical Pilot Base at Guizhou University, integrating engineering technology transfer, production, study and research into one CEEUSRO entity, with independent legal status and enterprise management, was approved for Education Ministry Southwest Medical Biological Resources Engineering Research Center by Department of Education in June,2006.

Today, the Engineering Center, with Prof. Kang Jichuan(Supervisor of PhD, Guizhou University) as Center Director, has approximately 20 engineers and technicians, among them including 8 doctors(6 studied from overseas),6 professors , 7 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, and also a group of young researchers. The chief founders of Engineering Center have been engaged in biological activities’ separation and purification and microbial biotechnology research for more than 40 years, approximately 50 biological activities and extractive productions’ preparation technology and measurement technique were completed. Early research achievements had patented more than 10 Chinese invention patents and over 200 academic thesis were published. In recent years, the Engineering Center obtains the national and province department level scientific research project funds over 8,000,000 RMB, more than 10 projects covers Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, Finance Ministry Industrial Achievements Transferring Projects, Provincial Department of Science and Technology Special Grand Projects, Provincial Key Task Projects, Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicines Modernization Projects, and so on. Ginkgo high water-soluble GBE’s extraction, isolation and purification technology has its own proprietary intellectual property rights and achieved the leading level in China; and so far, its production has reached 2 tons per year. Also, the studies on Cordyceps militaris fermentation and high-production Cordycepin strains’ breeding has already acquired prominent achievements, keeping the advanced status in the country.

The Engineering Center has four research and technology platforms: Natural active components’ isolation and detection technical platform, Chinese medicine chemical and pharmaceutical technical platform, Mycology and pharmaceutical mycology technology technical platform, Traditional Chinese medicine and cell engineering technical platform. The laboratory, which covers 2000 square meters, has a suit of perfect and advanced research and test Instruments, more than 50 equipments in total including Analytical and Preparation type HPLC, Special column, Ultrafilter, Microwave extractor, UV-visible spectrophotometer, Vacuum rotary evaporator, and so on. In the pilot workshop, which covers over 800 square meters, we have a universal multifunctional pilot production line and a ultrafiltration and extraction pilot production line; other equipments are more than 40 , inchuding Extractor, Filtrator, Splitter and Purifier, Vacuum drier, and so on.

Our Center is an open engineering research department , the Center Director Prof. Kang Jichuan and all staff are effusively welcome both biological enterprises and high-tech talents in all fields to visit our center for instruction and cooperative study.

The fermentation technology is ripe, the cordycepin content of Cordyceps fermentation is 2g/L, extracted and purified production’s purity is up to 98%. This technology is feasible in production and has been patented 5 invention patents.
